About Me
Dr. Greg Pillar is an innovative, data-informed, and student-centered academic leader with over two decades of experience in higher education administration. He currently serves as the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs at Queens University of Charlotte, providing strategic leadership for university-wide programs, undergraduate curricular initiatives, and key academic operations, including the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Everett Library, and the Registrar’s Office. As a member of the Provost Council and President’s Cabinet, Dr. Pillar collaborates closely with academic deans, administrators, faculty, and staff on matters related to undergraduate and graduate education.
Dr. Pillar is also a tenured professor of environmental science and chemistry. He has held the William S. Lee Professorship, chaired the Environmental Science & Chemistry Department, and directed the Preyer Honors Program and Initiatives. His research and consulting work previously focused on the chemistry of soil and water resources, particularly the fate of contaminants. He has mentored over 30 research projects and is a sought-after speaker on sustainability in food production. Dr. Pillar has been featured on WFAE’s Charlotte Talks and frequently consults for local media on environmental issues.
Dr. Pillar’s previous leadership experiences include serving as Assistant Provost for University Programs, Interim Dean of the McColl School of Business, and Interim Director of Everett Library. His leadership style is collaborative, inclusive, hybrid, and transformational, grounded in integrity, open communication, and strong interpersonal skills. He fosters individual growth and motivates effective teams, aiming to have an enduring impact on campus and in the community. With proven strategic leadership in university operations, accreditation, and initiatives such as Division I athletics transition, community engagement, and interdisciplinary program development Dr. Pillar has demonstrated progressive responsibility in academic administration.
Having turned his focus to innovation and leadership in higher education, Dr. Pillar leverages his extensive experience to study and understand the future path for sustainability and innovation in higher education. His goal is to enhance access, opportunities, and educational experiences for all students, ensuring a brighter and more inclusive future in academia.
